How can the enneagram aid in recovery? Taking the enneagram personality test can help you identify your strengths! These strengths can be harnessed and used in your recovery journal. While the enneagram provides a description of your strengths, it will also show the traits that resonate least in your personality. When we learn where our limitations might be we know what areas to focus on. For example: are you a type 1? Type one’s are often referred to as the perfectionists! You may show great attention to detail and are driven to accomplish all of your goals; however, a type one may also find that they are very critical of themselves or their work. After learning this about yourself, you can work to process and better understand how these traits may contribute to your eating issues. Learning about your personality traits can help you to identify helpful goals for treatment. For example, your treatment goals may be designed to lower perfectionistic tendencies and to increase positive self-talk.
Don’t forget to include your supports! Let your support system know how your type responds to compliments and conflicts. You can even invite your family and friends to learn their type as well. Knowing more about yourself and those around you will increase empathy and understanding.
